1976: Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple Computers on April Fool’s Day and create the Apple I, the first computer with a single-circuit board.
1977: Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak incorporate Apple and show the Apple II at the first West Coast Computer Faire. The Apple II has color graphics and includes an audio cassette drive for storage.
1981: The First IBM Personal computer, code named “Acorn,” is invented. It uses Microsoft’s MS-DOS operating system. It has an Intel chip, two floppy disks and an optional color monitor. Sears & Roebuck and Computerland sold the machines, which is the first time that computers were available through outside distributors. The term PC is popularized during this time.
1983: Apple’s Lisa is the first personal computer with a GUI (graphical user interface). It also has drop-down menu and icons. This computer doesn’t work out, it evolves into the Macintosh.
1985: As a response to Apple, Microsoft announces Windows.
